-Most Indian families operate on a joint family system where extended members of the family live together. There can be up to 20 people in one family household.
-Arranged marriages are popular in India. These are marriages planned by parents, with the consent of the bride and groom.
-When marrying, a dowry (money) is paid by the bride's family to protect her and her children from passing early.
-Many people are skeptical of the arranged marriage system in India but the divorce rate in India is significantly lower than other countries.
-However, recent studies suggest that India is beginning to move into more conventional ways of marriage.
