- India is one of the most multicultural nations in the world.
- India is the birthplace of Hinduism, Buddishm, Jainism and Sikhism.
- Hinduism and Buddishm are the worlds 3rd and 4th largest religions.
- India is one of the most religiously diverse nations in the world.
-There are many religious festivals that take place accross the Indian calendar.
- There are four national holidays in India.
- The most popular religious festivals include Diwali, Holi, Navrati, Ganesh Charthurti and Ugadi.
I was particularly interested by Holi, the Hindu festival. Celebrated by thousands of Hindus, the festival is significant for many reasons. It celerbrates the beginning of spring and Hindus believe that spring is a time of abundant colours and a final farewell to the cold winter months. It is not an extremely religious holiday but it is universally known as one of the most exhillarating ones of all. Holi is known for its partying, bonfires, and people throwing vividly colourful powders at each other and celerbrating wildly.
I was drawn to this festival for the use of wild colours and the celebration and vibrance behind it. The pictures I have included above are of big inspiration to me and I am definitely looking to incorporate the use of wild colours in my designs.
