Makeup, Jewelerry & Clothing

-Indian women wear makeup and jewelerry to enhance their air of charm.
-Bindi, mehendi, earrings and bangles are all common forms of embellishment.
-Bindi is often an essential.
-A red bindhi for married women and a coloured one for single women. They have now become a fashion statement all over the world.
-Sindoor is a red/orange powder in the hairline which is often worn by Indian women.

The picture above is of traditional Indian mendhi. Mendhi is the intricate designs on the hands and feet of women for celebratory occasions. I find the patterns and the detailing of mendhi to be extremely intriguing and I am definitely going to focus on pattern work when creating my catwalk look.

-Traditional clothing in India greatly varies accross different parts of the country.
-They are influenced by culture, geography, climate and rural/urban settings.
-Popular styles of dress include draped garments such as Saris for women and Dhori or Lunghi for men.
-In public and religious places, Indian dress ettiquette discourages exposure of skin, transparent and tight clothes.

I am becoming more and more drawn in by the vibrancy and luxury of Indian colours and garments. The patterns are simply exquisite. I have already incorporated patterns into some of my designs by drawing face plans onto magazine cut-outs. I will subsequently create a post on my love of Indian inspired patterns!
